Michael Lira Set For Return To Sports Car Action At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Seventeen-year old ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards regular Michael Lira will return to IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar (CTSC) racing action this weekend when the series visits Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This will be his first race at the legendary California road course.
Michael made his CTSC debut earlier this year behind the wheel of the number 57 Ford Mustang Boss 302R in the series season opener on the road course at Daytona International Speedway in February. Competing with co-driver Timmy Rivers, also making his debut, the pair qualified 8th and raced to a 13th place finish.
At the 2.238 miles Laguna Seca track in Monterey, CA, Michael will be driving with full time CTSC competitor Nick Galante. Nick finished 10th at Daytona and 13th in the series most recent race at Sebring International Raceway. He is currently 9th in CTSC driver championship points.
Lira and Galante will be racing the no. 57 Ford Mustang Boss 302R with primary sponsorship from Legistics and Gary Yeomans Ford.
In the ARCA Racing Series, Michael is scheduled to run 16 of the series 20 races in 2015. Because of his age, he is restricted from driving in four of the series events at larger tracks, including the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 taking place at the Talladega Superspeedway on Friday. After competing in three of the first four ARCA Series races this year, Michael has two top ten finishes and is 11th in the driver points standings. Michael turns 18 in July.
At Laguna Seca, drivers will take to the track for practice on Friday, May 1st from 12:40-1:25pm and again from 5:25-6:10pm. Qualifying is scheduled for Friday at 8:35pm. The green flag will fall at 4:00pm on Saturday, with a scheduled race length of 2.5 hours.
