(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – January 18, 2016) – With four cars and 10 drivers, Lira Motorsports made the most of it during the annual ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards open test at Daytona Int’l Speedway over the weekend.

Brandon Lynn, Tyler Speer, Kyle Weatherman and Gray Gaulding went out first and wasted no time creating their own draft-pack late Saturday morning.

“I thought the drafting Saturday was a blast,” Gaulding said. “I couldn’t wait to get out there and duke it out with them guys in the draft. We learned a lot and I can’t wait to come back. I thought everyone at Lira Motorsports did a great job all day long and they gave me a fast car.”

Weatherman also plans to come back for the race. Outside of just three laps he took in Daytona testing last year, the 2015 SCOTT Rookie of the Year and Short Track champion got his superspeedway feet wet in a big way.

“We learned a lot,” said Weatherman, who is already back in the shop Monday. “At the shop right now messing around with the speedway car a little. We weren’t able to make all the changes at the track, but we learned what changes we needed to make back at the shop, so, overall, it was very helpful to test.

“We made a couple runs by ourselves and I think we were as fast as the other quick cars in single-car runs, so we feel good about that.”

Weatherman will be working with veteran crew chief Sam Schram in 2016. “Sam and I get along very well. We think along the same track, with similar ideas, and, in my opinion, that’s important.”

Lynn also took his first laps at Daytona.

“It’s the most fun I’ve ever had…getting used to the draft and learning how to get around there,” Lynn said.

“It takes a little time to get used to the whole speed in general…pack racing…the whole thing. It takes a level of professionalism to get around Daytona. A lot of people think you just hold it to the floor and go around, but there’s a definite art to it, and that’s definitely something you have to learn at the track.”

Between the four Lira Motorsports Ford Fusions, there was a lot of driver swapping going on. In addition to the aforementioned four, rookies Dylan Cappello, Stephen Kemp, Justin Lloyd, Jeff Myers, Jr., Devin O’Connell, and Clayton Weatherman all took their turns behind the wheel.

“It was an awesome experience that I will never forget,” Cappello said. “I had so much fun and learned a lot in a short amount of time.”

The 53rd annual Lucas Oil 200 at Daytona is live on FS1 Saturday, February 13, and serves as the show-opener for NASCAR’s Sprint Unlimited following. Driver announcements for Lira Motorsports will be released in the coming weeks.
