PORT ORANGE, FL (February 16, 2016) — Lira Motorsports announces today that Morgen Baird, a 22-year-old Midwest racer from Jackson, Michigan, will be taking to the track in the Lira Motorsports Pro-Late Model entry this Friday and Saturday night, February 19-20, at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

IMG_7001Baird will be piloting the No.68 PLM for the final two nights of the 50th annual World Series, a week-long event that hosts a number of various race series like Super Late Models, Pro-Late Models, modifieds and more.

“I am very excited to be coming back down to New Smyrna to run in the final two nights of Speedweeks,” Morgen Baird said. “This is a big step in my racing career and I am excited to see how I stack up against some of the best PLM drivers from the south. I hope to run well and bring the car back in one piece. I’m very thankful that Carlos is giving me the opportunity to come back down and let me represent his team in these two races.”

Baird had the opportunity to test this pro-late model at New Smyrna Speedway on January 15th, which will assist in his comfort on-track during his races this week.

“I felt like our PLM test went very well. Michael and Kenny gave me some great tips as I got comfortable behind the wheel. Michael was a good teacher to me and helped me trust the car. We ran some awesome times for being my first time ever in a PLM. I am excited and confident to see where this weekend can take us.”

Being a racer from the Midwest, Morgen Baird has a long record of racing achievements throughout his long career. He has had much success in Go-Karts, Mini-Cup Racing, and Midwest Classic Racers Dwarf Cars. He has clinched two Rookie of the Year awards that came from Jackson Speedway and M-40 Speedway. He also has multiple track records, poles, and heat wins in various series; in addition, he clinched the track championship at Springport (MI) Speedway. Once 2015 rolled around, Baird began running his own equipment from his family owned race team.

“It’s a big deal for us to be asked to come back down to Florida and compete during Speedweeks. These types of opportunities don’t come often and I hope to make the best of it . Racing is a big deal down in the southern states and that’s where a lot of drivers get noticed. Being from Michigan, I will proudly represent the north and I would have no problem with moving south to advance my racing career in the future.”

Lira Motorsports and Morgen Baird would like to take the time to thank New Smyrna Speedway for hosting these races, RevMark “The Quick Draw Marker”, and his family and friends support for making this opportunity attainable.FullSizeRender

“I’d like to thank everyone at Lira Motorsports for giving me this opportunity. Carlos run a very professional program and Michael has been a huge help as well. I have the best parents and grandparents a kid could ask for, as they have sacrificed a lot for me to be in the position I am in. I could never thank them enough. I would also like to thank Jack Roush for recommending me to Carlos. Also Jan and Steve Gray for their support in my racing career.”
