Weatherman Finishes 12th in Corrigan Oil 200

BROOKLYN, Mi. (June 11, 2016) – Kyle Weatherman, driver of the Lira Motorsports No. 58 St. Charles Glass Ford Fusion, finished 12th in the Corrigan Oil 200 at Michigan International Speedway on Friday evening in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.

DSC_4485After qualifying was cancelled on Friday afternoon due to a shortage of time in the schedule, Weatherman lined up 14th on the starting grid to begin the 100-lap event. Within the first two laps, he had moved up well into the top-10 where he competed until he reported that there was an engine issue.

Luckily, a timely caution helped Weatherman from losing laps and allowed the team to get the car back in perfect shape.

“We had a crazy weekend from start to finish. We had a spectacular race car, but early on in the race, we had two plug wires go out on the left side of the engine. However, a caution came out just in time that allowed us to come down pit road to completely fix the issue. Not only did the issue get fixed, but we also got our lap back at the same time,” Weatherman said.

Once the green flag came out on lap 44, the race continued green until the checkered flag. Weatherman was able to take his car from the very back all the way to the front where he lead a handful of laps after the leaders decided to pit for fuel.

“It was so hard to race our way back to the front, but the car was so fast from then on,” Weatherman, who was a half a lap ahead of the leaders at one point, said. “We definitely had a winning car. We ended up being on a different strategy than the leaders, and we expected to make it to the checkered flag on fuel.”

However, around lap 70, a mechanical problem caused the fuel mixture to change which lead to more fuel being used than expected, resulting in being 3 laps short on fuel.

“Unfortunately we had to pit from the lead with two laps to go, but we were still able to clinch a top-15 finish. I’m so happy to have been able to lead laps and prove that we had a really fast car this weekend. My guys worked so hard to get this car prepared after the Michigan test a few weeks ago. We learned so much from there, especially since it was my first time on the track, and we made gains here this weekend. We knocked on Victory Lane’s door, but we know that door will open in the future really soon. I can’t thank my guys enough.”
